Hear Blues School
oozieblues3.jpg

This is a brand new recording, of  original songs by an outstanding blues band. The CD is diverse in many ways. The songs were written by three of the bandmembers; Norman Pingrey, Terry DeRouen and Stephen Guillory. The songs were sang by these same three members. The basic instrumentation is; lead vocals, lead and rhythm guitars, bass and drums. Steve who assisted in the production of the CD, played other instruments; harmonica, organ, dobro and conga drums only when the song needed them. The parts he played on these other instruments were simple but effective because he is bandmember not a "hired gun" studio musician. Norm, the bass player and bandleader, played rhythm guitar on three of the songs he wrote. The rhythm section of Norm and Delacy White is tight, versitile and tasty. Guitar players will delight in the interplay of these two seasoned guitarists; Steve and Terry. They have both been members of The Oozie Blues Band for four years. They have their own individual styles and tone but they both know how and when to play lead and when to play rhythm. This level of teamwork is rare in any band. This is American Roots Music. Every member of the band has an extensive resume in blues and R&B. The Oozie Blues are now playing for international blues festivals, concerts,
corporate and private parties.

The Oozie Blues have been  in the studio for the past few Months.  Recording Blues school. Check it out.

The Oozie Blues Show will be doing some traveling this year with their new CD "Blues School" Out on the road, We hope to be in your town soon.

Help us save sight

Every state, county, city and school district can save eyesight, money and even the lives of some pre-verbal children, with a one-second eye test most jurisdictions know nothing about. About 500,000 children in this country lose the sight in one eye. Not because of an eye problem, but because of a malfunction in their brain that causes "lazy eye."  we need you!  Please click on this site to hear a live interview with George Collins http://santaanainsight.com/bvcnow.htm

The Oozie Blues would like to introduce a new venu for your enjoyment. Red White+Bluezz In one of the original historic buildings of Old Pasadena, redwhite+bluezz offers top-tier menu ingredients, a Sommelier-directed wine program (including tasting flights, a series of two-hour classes, and an exceptional bottle selection), and a stylish venue for enjoying the work of the area's best Blues and Jazz musicians. The facility itself is divided into two main sections: "The Grill," located on the corner of Raymond and Green Streets, and the "Bluezz" in back where the live music plays. Our decor is accented with the artwork of highly accredited local artists featuring musical themes and images. The ownership and management team in this multifaceted entertainment facility draw many years experience from well-regarded companies such as the Parkway Grill, the California Philharmonic Orchestra, Windows Restaurant, and Roponggi of La Jolla. While others in the area dabble in either Wine, Music, or excellent American Cuisine, all three are redwhite+bluezz' specialty.

We would like to thank all who came out and supported Big T DeRouen, SirStan & Josie Pingrey.

"Bonne Musique Zydeco if you love Blues you will love Zydeco"

This Zydeco band remained Josie of her younger days, when her mother would sing this song "Jambalaya" and play her spoons. She wanted to put them in the news. She gives them two thumbs up.

Joe Houston's love affair with the blues began over 50 years ago when he met and married his first saxophone. Since then, he has made great music with a list of luminaries that would make the heavens envious, including, John Coltrane, King Kolax, Big Joe Turner, Gatemouth Moore, Amos Milburn and the Rolling Stones. Joe Houston is a honking R&B saxman of wallpaper-peeling potency who recorded for virtually every major independent R&B label in Los Angeles during the 1950s. He was on Modern Records as were B.B. King and John Lee Hooker.
The king of the Texas saxophone is doing well he suffered a stroke two years ago and is coming along well. Joe is on his way to recovery.  He is walking twice a day now. Thanks for your prayers.  For more information inquire at npingrey@earthlink.net

The Oozie Blues festivals in June.

They performed at The Topanga Canyon Blues Festival sponsored by The Southern California Blues Society on Saturday, June 16th.  The traditional blues format was well received by the crowd and some new fans were made.  The band members themselves enjoyed the other performances and the chance to hangout with old friends and make a few new ones.

The band also perfomed at The Bayou Festival in Long Beach on June 23rd.  They played the Saturday evening concert on The New Orleans Stage.  There was a great turnout for this festival and a great time was had by all.

The schools today could be a  help in teaching the young people about the history of American music. And the blues is truly American music, If we all can find time to visit the schools in our town, We would be giving our young people a chance to know about the history and art of the blues.

About The BandArchie Lee Hooker

Read about Archie Lee Hooker

This is the story of Archie Lee Hooker JR. He was born in Mississippi in 1949. When he was 13 he moved to Memphis and at the age of 20 he married his high school sweet heart.  He has 3 children and 13 grandchildren.  Archie Lee stayed with John Lee from 1989 until he passed in 2001.  He was his uncle's caretaker, which included driving and cooking for him.  He was also his best friend.  John Lee wanted the best for Archie.  He wanted Archie to pursue his music career.  John Lee did all he could to make that happen for Archie by introducing him to the blues world.  When Archie was young he sang gospel John Lee convinced him that he could also sing the blues.  Archie did not have enough confidence in himself at that time, but later gained that confidence.  John's encouragement helped him to gain the he needed to go on with it.  He has made four recording to date; Suicide Blues in 1996,  Far From Home in 1999, Best Of Archie Lee Hooker JR. in 2000 and New Church Of The Blues in 2001.  In 1995 he traveled Europe with Big Time which included; Norman Pingrey, T.W. Henderson and Scott LaMantia.  In 1996 and again in 2000 he returned to play in Carl Wyatt's Band.  These were extended tours and where he played many festivals and club dates.  He came back to California and played all over the state with members of John Lee Hooker's touring band The Coast to Coast Blues Band.  In 2004 Archie Lee relocated to Southern California and joined his friend Norman Pingrey who was and is the bandleader of The Oozie Blues Band.  They performed and turned heads together all over Southern and Northern California.  Archie moved back to the Bay Area in the summer of 1995.  He is once again leading his own blues band there.  The musical chemistry between Archie and Norm runs deep and they are both looking forward to recording and performing together again.  Archie remembers his uncle John’s words, "God, wisdom, love, caring, giving of yourself."

Take time to laugh for it is the music of the soul; if anyone speaks of you badly, live so no one will believe it. Here are some of the best gifts to give: to a friend loyalty; to your enemy forgiveness.  Give the music to the world for music is love.
